Is your household one of the 75% ready to cut the cable cord? Good news! Streaming services have come a long way in the past few years. They were first introduced as add-ons to your current TV programming with a limited amount of content to view. Fast forward to 2019, and now they are making traditional cable companies change their line-ups to compete.

It can be a hard decision to choose which video streaming service is best. Today we are comparing two of our favorite services, DirecTV Now and Hulu.

Benefits of Streaming

There are so many benefits to streaming including watching on your own time, downloading content to watch later when you are not online and so many choices of content. Recently, David was traveling with his son and they were able to instantly stream to their hotel TV – a great benefit for frequent travelers!

DirecTV introduced DirecTV Now to compete with other streaming services. Their service offers a free week trial to see if it will be right for your household. The base package includes 65+ live channels for only $40 per month with no satellite dish or contract. You can add on more channels including international packages as well. They also offer a Cloud DVR that can record up to 20 hours of programming. Hulu also offers free trials ranging from 1 week to 1 month depending on the plan you will be trying out. They offer a base plan starting at only $7.99 which includes streaming but no access to Live TV. These plans do have limited commercials (they need them to keep the costs low to the consumer). They offer 50 hours of cloud storage for the live TV programs you can’t miss.

As with anything, you will have to get used to the new format. Both are easy to use and as mentioned above, easy to travel with. However, you do need to have online access while watching these services (unless they offer a download option like Netflix). If you can’t live without your local channels it is easy to add an antenna.
